The FFA and the environment

The FFA conducts two types of action on behalf of its members:

  • It keeps watch on developments concerning environmental constraints with which steel and steelmakers must comply,
  • It facilitates and promotes exchanges between its members to enable them to respond as quickly as possible to the challenges of lasting development.

WATCH AND COMMUNICATION

1.1 - Legal watch

Four times a year, the FFA publishes a legal information bulletin summarizing the changes in European and French regulations and their repercussions on the steelmaking industry.

1.2 - Changes to environmental constraints

The FFA keeps in contact with governmental and European Community authorities in order to inform the legislators and the regulating instances of the point of view of the steelmaking industry in these matters.

This action is conducted jointly with the MEDEF and EUROFER in particular.

The increasing role of non-governmental organizations with the legislators and media is inducing the FFA to foster and strengthen its relations with these organisations.

SYNERGY

2.1 - The ATS

The Technical Association of the Steelmaking Industry (the “ATS”) has set up an Energy Committee to facilitate technical exchanges between the experts of the different member companies.

2.2 - The Changing Climate

Amongst the leading issues affecting lasting development is the possible changing climate caused by releases of “greenhouse effect” gases.

The FFA has signed an undertaking to reduce releases of CO2 during the 1990 – 2000 period and is working on extending this approach for the decade to come.
